Since 2016, Bucherer Blue concept has produced over 50 unique watches in partnership with 25 watch brands. Bucherer has proven that a retailer can be a strong force in collaboration when it comes to boutique watch concepts.

Everyone loves a good theme, and no one does it better than Bucherer Blue. It’s eternally satisfying to see the increasingly innovative ways that their partners are incorporating the concept of unconventional design into their collaborative work. This time, there are three new timepieces to explore. Each partner has brought a unique and diverse design, allowing the freedom of the boundary breaking mission to push them in unexpected directions.

Bucherer is adding three new timepieces to their popular Bucherer Blue concept in separate collaborations with Girard-Perregaux, H. Moser & Cie. and L’Epée.

From the intricate complexity of the Girard-Perregaux Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges Bucherer Blue, to a modern sporting beauty of a watch with the H. Moser & Cie. Streamliner Tourbillon Bucherer Blue and the unexpected kinetic sculpture L’Epée 1839 Time Fast Bucherer Blue, each collaboration delivers on the promise of groundbreaking design and gorgeous blue hues.

Girard-Perregaux Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges Bucherer Blue

Going back into the history of watchmaking, Girard-Perregaux created their iconic “Tourbillon with Three Gold Bridges” back in 1867. This design is considered the oldest watch movement still in production today. The concept of exposing the functional bridges and making them a beautiful part of the time display lives on in the new 18-piece exclusive Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges Bucherer Blue.

For the collaboration with Bucherer, the team at Girard-Perregaux looked back to the beginning for inspiration and created a timepiece with the three exposed bridges in a stunning dark blue color. The future meets the past with a twist on the design: the arrow shaped bridges of the past have evolved into a rounder and more contemporary “Neo” shape, and the architecture was adjusted to give the movement the illusion of levitating in the center of the case by bridges also functioning as the mainplate. The hidden micro-rotor permits an unobstructed view on the movement.

The 44mm case is crafted from titanium for its strength and weight, with two “glass box” style sapphire crystals in the front and back for a view of the caliber GP09400-1988 movement that goes through and beyond the confines of traditional watchmaking while still giving the occasional nod to its roots — like the historically detailed lyre-shaped tourbillon cage crafted from ultra modern grade 5 titanium. The tourbillon cage is comprised of 79-components and weighs a mere 0.25 grams!

It’s really the small details that bring home how special this timepiece is, from the blued hand on the cage that rotates 360 degrees every minute to serve as the small seconds display, to the high quality craftsmanship of each delicate piece of the movement.

The Tourbillon with Three Flying Bridges Bucherer Blue is paired with a calf leather, nubuck finish strap in blue-gray, closed with a titanium triple-folding buckle and has a 60-hour minimum power reserve.

H. Moser & Cie. Streamliner Tourbillon Bucherer Blue

Bucherer and H. Moser & Cie. have a six-year history of outstanding collaborations, and this year they tackle the famous Streamliner collection for the first time. The watch is the Streamliner Tourbillon Bucherer Blue, which includes all the hallmarks of the relatively new but stunningly successful, collection with a minimal aesthetic contrasted with a highly complex design.

At first glance, there are several features that compete for the viewer’s attention. First, there are the 60 striking dark blue sapphires that are baguette-cut and inset around the cushion-shaped bezel for the Bucherer Blue touch. These gems somehow manage to convey a sporty vibe while being undeniably a glamorous finish.

H. Moser & Cie. Streamliner Tourbillon Bucherer Blue

Less colorful, but equally entrancing, is the brilliantly worked tourbillon cage standing out against the fumé dial with its graduation from dark gray to amber to a light silver color and logo in transparent lacquer. The tourbillon architecture includes the oppositional twin hairsprings, made by sister company Precision Engineering, that has become something of a trademark of the watchmaker.

The watch is finished with an integrated steel bracelet that has unusual links creating an entrancing wavelike pattern. The caseback includes both the H. Moser & Cie. logo as well as the Bucherer Blue name and number for the 18-piece limited edition. Modern and simple, the Streamliner Tourbillon Bucherer Blue is a wonderful sports watch with a luxury twist.

L’Epée 1839 Time Fast Bucherer Blue

L’Epée presented a very different type of answer to the Bucherer Blue challenge in the form of a whimsical timekeeping kinetic sculpture. The Time Fast × Bucherer Blue is crafted as a 1950s-style single-seater classic race car with the exposed hour and minute wheels situated to display the time on top of the “engine.”

The car has a stunning dark blue paint job with white racing stripes for the Bucherer Blue aspect of the design. The engine is a tiered movement architecture with a sapphire dome “helmet” representing the driver that protects delicate visible components. In a move as nostalgic as it is practical, the Time Fast mechanical motor is wound by pulling the car back on realistic rubber tyres reminiscent of winding childhood toy cars. The movement has an eight-day power reserve.

L’Epée 1839 Time Fast Bucherer Blue

The teams at L’Epée and Bucherer created a beautiful kinetic sculpture that brings together all the best components of motorsports, clock making and childhood toys without losing sight of the luxury and attention to detail expected of the partnership. This sculpture, limited to 18 pieces, is a wonderful example of stepping out of conventional design.
