Introducing a Trio of Furlan Marri Mechanical Sector Dial Watches

Furlan Marri delights fans and followers with three new additions to its permanent collection – the Three Hands. Following last year’s successful cow-horn cased three-hander, the brand is treating us to not, not two, but three new versions with super cool sector dials in a trio of hues that are driven by a Swiss-made automatic movement by La Joux-Perret.

Do you remember those first teasers for Furlan Marri’s initial epic drop in 2021? The Kickstarter campaign to launch its 1940s inspired steel chronograph went crazy, with orders numbers that were literally ten times what the brand had expected and Furlan Marri quickly became a social media sensation. The greatest part of it all was the price of $330. It’s shocking when you remember that Andrea Furlan and Hamad Al Marri only conceived the brand during the lockdown of 2020. The entire brand was conceptualised, designed, tested and produced in the space of one year.

The initial mecaquartz watch was heavily influenced by the Patek Philippe steel chronograph reference 1463, complete with Tasti Tondi pushers and case finishing well beyond its modest price tag. Each watch came complete with vintage Patek-style box, certificates and two leather straps with quick release spring bars. Then one year later came a mechanical, three-hander with cool black sector dial and movement by La Joux-Perret. The 2022 model was another hit with its mid-20th century inspired cow-horn lugs proving popular with collectors and tastemakers alike.

The three new watches lunched as part of the permanent collection pick up where last year’s bullish three-hander left off. The watches are essentially differentiated by the dials: Salmon Sector, Grey Sector and White Sector. Model 2154-A, named “Salmon Sector”, features a dial with a finely stamped texture enhanced by raised applied hour-markers with a “black gunmetal” PVD coating. Model 2161-A, known as “White Sector”, also has a dial with raised applied hour markers, paired with hands in blued steel. The dial of model 2145-A, entitled “Grey Sector”, offers a double-printed dial.

The watches are driven by Swiss-made automatic movements that are crafted by La Joux-Perret in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The tungsten rotor is palladium plated and the movement has a 68-hour power reserve. The boys at FM have kept high quality finishing too, including Geneva stripes, snailing, blued-steel screws and the words “Furlan Marri, crafted with care, designed for details” engraved on the rotor.

The case is assembled in stages. One the mid-case finishing is complete and has been inspected, the cow-horn lugs are attached using a bridge that can be seen at six and twelve o’clock. The bezel, once it too has been finished is then attached to the case. As per mid-century waterproof cases, to which Furlan Marri pays such massive respect (think Borgel and Spillman), the cases feature decagonal screw-down case backs to complete the aesthetic.

Do you prefer straight or curved-end leather straps? Personal I would go for the former, but Furlan Marri knows that it’s a moot point and so has placed to sets of spring bar holes on the inner sides of the lugs to cater to both camps. Thoughtful yes, but they have gone one step further by including two straps, one of each style, to truly allow one to experiment. And yes, the super easy to use quick-change strap bars are also back! And if you want to go one step further than strap tinkering, fear not. Furlan Marri will be expanding its programme of self-assembly opportunities with half-day watchmaking training sessions where you can assemble your own watch whilst learning about the various elements that make it whole. This offer will be rolled-out globally from this year. What could be better than owning a watch you put together yourself?
