Blancpain Continues its Support of Oceana with Fabulous Auction Offering

Since 2020, Blancpain has partnered with Oceana, the largest ocean conservation and research organization of its kind, to further their mission of advocacy the world over. Beginning in May of 2024, Oceana, with the support of Blancpain, completed its first of three research expeditions to the Channel Islands, off the coast of California. This eight-island archipelago is one of the most fascinating and richest marine ecosystems found anywhere in the world.

On September 10, 2024, Oceana’s New York Gala Auction once again took place, auctioning off rare and unique experiences. The evening was a resounding success, with nearly $1.8 million raised to support the vital work that Oceana conducts. The illustrious guest list included Oceana Board Member Ted Danson, who acted as the evening’s Master of Ceremonies, Rumer Willis, and Sam Waterston, to name but a few. The evening’s proceeds contributed to the nearly $18 million dollars that has been raised thus far at the annual event.

Coinciding with the auction, the second of three expeditions to the Channel Islands will commence, continuing the vital work of understanding and protecting the biodiversity of such a rare unique ecosystem. Chief among the auction lots, was a joint offering from Blancpain and Aman New York, where the winner of this unique horological lot will experience a two-night stay in NYC like no other.

Beginning with a private shopping experience with Blancpain US Brand President Leonardo Laviola, the winner will have the chance to select two watches from either the Villeret or the Fifty Fathoms collections. Named for Blancpain’s home town, the Villeret combines classic, elegant watchmaking with modern techniques, craftsmanship and capabilities. Fifty Fathoms is of course a cornerstone of Blancpain’s collection, dating back to the early, foundational days of dive watches (and perfectly suited towards an oceanic research expedition).

Once the timepieces are in hand (or on the wrist as the case may be), the winner of the lot and a guest will enjoy a two night stay at the magnificent Aman New York, a palatial hotel located in none other than the iconic Crown Building. For those two nights, the Premier Suite will act as home, providing a luxurious sanctuary high above 57th street, along with butler service and sommelier selections for all dining experiences. Renovation of the crown building began in 2017, completing with the opening of one of NYC’s most exclusive and distinct properties in August of 2022.

This, of course, is not the first time that Blancpain has stepped up to the plate to provide watches for auction in support of Oceana’s vital work. Just this past November, as a part of their continued Ocean Commitment, Blancpain partnered with Sotheby’s to auction off a collection of rare and unique Fifty Fathoms watches. Research is still ongoing, and the need to protect our oceans is only becoming more crucial by the day.
