The Low-Down

When it comes to all things horologically cool, forget the Midas Touch we now have the Bamford Touch! It seems that whatever George Bamford turns his hand to, he adds his cool signature and he produces hit after hit. Like the Simon Cowell of the watch world…only his trousers fit him properly! The latest offering from Bamford London is the 347, a carbon fibre mono-pusher chrono in two iterations and guess what? They’re both pretty cool!

I have known George for quite some time now and I always enjoy my visits to the Hive, the Bamford London HQ in Mayfair, where the team work on the alchemy of both Bamford London watches and the customization pieces for TAG Heuer, Zenith and Frank Muller amongst others. I was very fortunate to be shown the prototypes of the 347 last year and so have been eagerly awaiting the release of the production models. Says George, “The monopusher chronograph is one of my favourite types of watches as I love the asymmetric layout and simplicity of function. I am always drawn to a retro modern design with the use of cutting edge materials and I always strive to push the design limit. Using some of our signature colourways and using carbon fibre on the case, I love the aesthetics and technicalities of these watches.”

The carbon fibre cases have an appealing marble, almost camo look and a flat pusher at two o’clock. Both versions have tachymeter scales on the circumference of the dial.

IMHO

The watch is being launched in two distinctive versions. The first is in the house-signature colour scheme of aqua blue and black and the second a ‘reverse panda’ dial layout. The carbon fibre cases have an appealing marble, almost camo look and a flat pusher at two o’clock. Both dial versions have tachymeter scales on the circumference of the dial and the aqua dial has the highlighted ten-minute section on the minute counter, to give that classic vintage look that I personally really love. The reverse-panda version has a lovely contrasting white band around the dial edge and clean white sub dials. However you take your chronos, one of these will be for you.

The watches come as standard on black rubber straps but there is a range of rubber straps in four colours (red, blue, yellow and khaki), canvas, leather and cordura with hardware available in steel or black and all having quick release spring bars. The 41mm case houses a Sellita SW510 that drives the bi-compax layout including the date window. And of course, the packaging is as excellent as we would expect from Bamford with an embossed black inner box and aqua outer box.

George is quite rightly excited about the launch. “Since the prototypes arrived, they have constantly been on my wrist and I hope people feel the same way as I do. I am so excited to offer a brand new watch for the market and I cannot wait to see it on people’s wrists.”
