Attending the 49th Annual Hampton Classic with Longines
The Hampton Classic Horse Show has long been the crown jewel of the equestrian show jumping calendar in the US. Held in one capacity or another since the early 1900s, the show’s current iteration is in its 49th year, and it acts as the social event of the season in the Hamptons, bringing summer to a close. With their partnership beginning in 2013, Longines is now the Official Partner, Official Timekeeper, and Official Watch of the competition.
For the final week of August, culminating in Labor Day weekend, equestrians, enthusiasts, and socialites alike gather to see the Hunter & Jumper competitions, held on Snake Hollow Road in Bridgehampton, NY. Alongside the ring, the VIP tent buzzes with joviality, with dozens of glamorous, yet restrained, tablescapes and floral arrangements judged in a friendly tablescape competition.
In addition to its broader support, Longines also sponsors the $425,000 Longines Hampton Classic 5 Star Grand Prix and the Longines Rider Challenge. The 5 Star show jumping is among the highest levels of equestrian competition in the world, and it sees horse and rider navigating jumps over four feet high in increasing levels of complexity and difficulty. The winner is the horse and rider team that finishes the course with the least amount of faults (where no rails are knocked down or jumps refused) and within the optimal time allowed. The Rider Challenge is determined by the rider who accumulates the most points across each class in which they compete.
Longines’ history of involvement in the equestrian world dates back to the late 1800s with the creation of equestrian themed pocket watches. Today, Longines is deeply involved with the competitive equestrian world. They are the official timekeeper and partner of FEI (Fédération Equestre Internationale), the governing body for equestrian sports, overseeing all manner of riding competitions the world over. Longines is also the official partner of the IFHA (International Federation of Horseracing Authorities), which governs horse racing internationally, including the Royal Ascot and The Kentucky Derby.
