TAG Heuer Carrera Extreme Sport Collection Reimagines Its Chronograph Models

Eight years since its debut, the TAG Heuer Carrera Extreme Sport refreshes its collection with the introduction of two new lineups: the Carrera Chronograph Extreme Sport and the Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon Extreme Sport, bringing in a total of six new models.

Originally inspired by the legendary Carrera Panamericana road race, the Carrera line debuted in 1963 in the reference 2447 designed by Jack Heuer and one that relied on the manual-winding Valjoux 72. The model went through numerous iterations, from the full gold ref. 1158 to another re-edition in the tail-end of the 20th century in the Carrera Chronograph 1996. Then in 2016, TAG Heuer took this racing heritage to new heights. The chronograph brought a more rugged, high-performance approach, blending cutting-edge materials like titanium and ceramic with bold designs, while emphasizing precision, durability, and sportiness, making it a favorite among watch aficionados who sought both technical prowess and an adrenaline-fueled aesthetic.

Introducing new design and materials

The material construction in the 2024 Carrera Chronograph Extreme Sport incorporates a hollowed profile in the case design, to which its sandblasted finish enhances its sporty appeal. The skeletonized dial is emphasized with bold black lines to guide the eye, while the intricate open-worked design mimics the mechanics of high-performance car engines. In low-light conditions, the hour and minute hands are illuminated in white Super-LumiNova.

The collection features four models in grade-2 titanium, and two models in 18K rose gold, with options of black ceramic or forged carbon for the fixed bezels. Akin to dynamic racer liveries, the Extreme Sport chronographs include models in colorful outfits in either blazing orange or blue — adopted on the minute scale, openworked date disc, chronograph seconds hand, seconds and hour registers, and the crown. The black DLC titanium model is offered as a monochromatic option, with the other in 18K rose gold for those who prefer a little more gilded weight.

In the tourbillon models, the watches retain the chronograph’s configuration, save for a 60-second tourbillon that has taken over the 6 o’clock register. It’s presented in just two iterations: in all-black titanium with a forged carbon bezel, and the second, in rose gold. The TH20-09 in-house caliber offers a 65-hour power reserve, while the chronographs are fitted with the TH20-00 movement with an 80-hour reserve.
