The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Tribute Chronograph Is Reimagined in Pink Gold
In a follow up to its widely praised release in 2023, Jaeger-LeCoultre has announced the release of an exquisite new Reverso Tribute Chronograph. This new limited edition is presented in full 18k pink gold. Where last year’s models were cased in both steel and pink gold as well, this edition, which is limited to just 250 pieces, utilizes pink gold for the bulk of the watch’s construction — the case the movement bridges, the applied indices (which appear to be almost floating on the open-work reverse side) and the dial — and oh, what a dial it is.
The Reverso is perhaps the single clearest personification of Art Deco in the watch world — both in terms of its styling and the era from which it originated. While the initial purpose of the rotating rectangular case was a (relatively) practical one — protecting the crystal from the sudden strike of a polo mallet or ball — the iconic form has evolved to serve as a showcase for artistry. Whether it be in the duo-face models or as a canvas for engraving, a Reverso well utilized is becomes a horological locket, housing a secret within.
For this latest edition, the pink gold dial is at once simple and fabulously ornate – laser engraved with horizontal lines that emphasize the gadroons on the top and bottom of the case. This linear pattern is striking for its contrast of polish and texture, which play with the light, catching it in bright rays of reflection and absorption. A black railroad minute track dots the periphery, while sharp pink gold indices extend to meet the simple dauphine hands.
Had that been where the show ended, the reverse side being reserved for an engraving, this still would have been one of the best looking reverso in its 93 year existence. That, of course, is not the case. The reverse shows off the Calibre 830 chronograph movement, built predominantly from 18k pink gold. It’s as striking as it was when it was first revealed last year, only now even more lustrous and resplendent. The back plate of the watch is engraved with a brilliant sunray pattern, fully owning the victorious essence of its Art Deco lineage.
