Breitling Makes Waves With New Superocean Models
Breitling Makes Waves With New Superocean Models
At the vibrant Wheels and Waves surf-and-motorcycle festival in Biarritz, Breitling introduced two dynamic additions to its Superocean line: the eye-catching rainbow-dial editions and the robust Superocean Automatic 46 Super Diver. These launches coincide with the release of “The Breitling Book of Surfing,” celebrating the brand’s deep connection to surf culture.
Breitling’s new Superocean models bring a splash of color to their iconic dive watches. The Superocean Automatic 42 and 36 rainbow-dial editions, alongside a new 44 mm turquoise-dial version with a tone-on-tone strap, capture the essence of summer. Breitling CEO Georges Kern emphasizes the versatility of these watches: “With the summer upon us, our colorful new Superocean models are your ultimate companions, whether you’re riding the waves or relaxing at a beachside dinner.”
Superocean rainbow and turquoise-dial editions
Inspired by the 1960s and 1970s SuperOcean Slow Motion, these watches feature bold minute scales, luminescent baton indexes, and “paddle” hands for underwater readability. The original design featured a bold, high-contrast minute scale on the dial ring, chunky luminescent baton indexes, and “paddle” hands to ensure easy readability underwater. Notably, it removed the traditional seconds hand, opting instead for a minutes-based chronograph that took an hour to complete a full rotation, earning it the nickname “Slow Motion.”
The contemporary Superocean line embraces this legacy of practicality while updating it for modern wearers. The new rainbow-dial models stand out with their gradient Super-LumiNova hour markers and hands, available in vibrant 42 mm stainless-steel versions with rubber straps in turquoise, aquamarine, orange, and yellow, and a sophisticated 36 mm version in white with a stainless-steel and 18k red gold case.
The turquoise-dial model extends this colorful theme with a matching rubber bracelet, contrasting its black ceramic bezel. Built for both action and leisure, these watches feature sporty rubber straps with micro-adjustment clasps and polished, scratch-resistant ceramic bezel inserts.
Superocean Automatic 46 Super Diver
The Superocean Automatic 46 Super Diver is Breitling’s latest innovation for deep-sea adventurers. With water resistance up to 1000 meters, this watch features dial options in green or black camouflage, paired with matching ceramic inlays. Its bidirectional rotating bezel with a patented safety lock ensures secure and precise timekeeping, while a soft-iron inner case protects against magnetic interference.
Crafted from lightweight titanium, the Superocean Automatic 46 Super Diver offers a choice between a color-matched rubber strap or a sleek titanium bracelet, combining top-tier functionality with nautical flair.
Celebrating Surf Culture: The Breitling Book of Surfing
Breitling also launched “The Breitling Book of Surfing” at the festival, highlighting the brand’s long-standing connection to the surf community. Published by Rizzoli, this book explores surf cultures across six continents, featuring insights from 16 Breitling surf ambassadors. Written by seasoned surf writer Ben Mondy, with a foreword by freestyler Mikey February and an introduction by eight-time world champion Stephanie Gilmore, the book captures the spirit of global surf communities.
