Grand Seiko Honors Asia Pacific With The Stunning SBGJ285 Limited Edition In Fuji-Iro
In celebration of the second anniversary of its presence in the Asia Pacific, Grand Seiko introduces the SBGJ285, a limited-edition timepiece that draws deeply from Japanese aesthetics and cultural heritage. This release honors the brand’s signature design legacy and craftsmanship, featuring a dial inspired by Japan’s wisteria, or fuji flower, renowned for its symbolic beauty and elegance.
The dial, rendered in a delicate purple shade known as Fuji-iro, is a tribute to wisteria’s historical association with nobility. Its texture mirrors the flower’s graceful sway in the breeze, capturing the fleeting beauty of nature. Beneath this serene aesthetic lies the power and precision of Grand Seiko’s Hi-Beat 36000 GMT Calibre 9S86. The movement, revered for its accuracy at +5 to -3 seconds per day, includes a GMT function.

The SBGJ285’s 44GS case design dates back to 1967 and remains a cornerstone of Grand Seiko’s design philosophy. The case is crafted from Ever-Brilliant Steel, a proprietary alloy with superior corrosion resistance thanks to a PREN value 1.7 times higher than standard stainless steel. As the name so describes, the façade of Ever-Brilliant Steel boasts a more radiant hue that elevates the aesthetic appeal by casting a noticeably whiter, more lustrous tone across the hairline-finished surfaces. This high-grade steel also undergoes Grand Seiko’s renowned Zaratsu polishing, a finishing technique that demands precision and skill, particularly challenging when applied to Ever-Brilliant Steel due to the metal’s unique properties.
