The MoonSwatch Is Finally Available Online
We never thought we’d see the day. The Bioceramic MoonSwatch was initially intended to be available online — “eventually.” But the message soon changed. The hunt, the challenge, in-person social gathering… It was all supposedly part of the concept when it launched in 2022, broke the internet, and changed the watch world. Not being available to buy one online was also one of the most controversial elements that left many fans frustrated and even upset. Now, the “eventually” has arrived, and the long awaited “add to cart” button has appeared on the Swatch website, but there are some caveats.
Only “the classic four”
First, it’s only the models which Swatch calls “the classic four.” Specifically, that means the green and blue Mission on Earth, the yellow Mission to the sun, the classically monochromatic Speedmaster homage Mission to the Moon, and the red and white Alaska Project homage Mission to Mars. Swatch has continued to expand variants as hype died down, but these four are from the original collection of 11. It’s not clear at this stage whether or not Swatch plans to expand the models available online.
Only in the US and China
For now, this feature will only be available in the United States and China. Fratello speculates that these markets were chosen because of wide areas not served by traditional retail presence. As with any news surrounding the MoonSwatch, we expect that the situation is a developing one and we’ll keep you abreast of any changes or expansion.
Don’t expect a next-day delivery
Above the “add to cart” button on the Swatch website is a notification telling you that “due to very high demand, the shipment of this product may be delayed.” We don’t yet have a sense of what kind of delays we’re talking about, but Swatch is surely keen to avoid yet another outcry from frustrated customers like “my MoonSwatch hasn’t arrived yet.” You’ll have to sign in or create a Swatch Club account in order to buy one and, as with in-store purchasing, Swatch limits each sale to one watch per person, per day. The price is $270, the same as in a store, and shipping is free.
This latest chapter in the MoonSwatch saga is perhaps just what was needed to get the epic collab product back into the hype mix as attention has waned (as it were) despite regular new models and events surrounding it. For some people, this may be just what they were waiting for — especially if one of “the classic four” is the model they’d been eying.
